Interim Director of Student Programs

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Newberger Hillel Center at the University of Chicago, the Interim Director of Student Programs is responsible for facilitating and executing three months of programs, events, and initiatives in the absence of the Director of Student Programs. He/She may also be asked to fill in for the Director of Jewish Student Life in her overlapping leave. Additionally, he/she may be required to spend some time working with the Director of Operations on administrative tasks for Hillel. This is a temporary position.
Responsibilities:
- Executing logistics for Jewish holiday programming including: Yom Kippur, Break the Fast, Sukkot, and Simchas Torah
- Organizing and executing Faculty Mega Shabbat
- Staffing events as part of the Program Team
- Carrying out the planning timeline for the Latke Hamantash Debate
- Attend weekly staff meetings with Program Staff
- Potentially communicating with national ABQ staff in preparation for Ask Big Questions regional training at Northwestern
- Communicate with professional school Jewish graduate student group leaders on upcoming events
- Execute some administrative tasks, cover the front desk when needed, and work with Director of Operations as requested
Requirements:
- B.A. from accredited institution required
- Ability to work independently and in concert with others
- Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines; multi-task on various events
- Experience with organization of large scale events with volunteer involvement
- Ability to relate well with academically focused, highly motivated student body
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite of Products
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of Jewish community, culture, heritage, traditions and Jewish Communal Services
- Must be available to come in for training on a part-time basis over the summer
- Ability to work the following days/evenings required:
- September 25-26 (Yom Kippur)
- October 14th (ABQ regional training)
- October 26 (Mega Shabbat)
- November 20 (Latke Hamantash Debate)
- Selected Friday evenings between September 28-November 16 (to be determined)
