I have enough work. Why Bother With Search Engine Optimization?
Why? Why bother? It is just another expense. When your in business, expenses better pay for themselves. You have been in business for over five years and you are still getting customers. They walk right in the front door or call.
Yes, you agree that the recession has dropped revenue and that little ad you buy int he local newspaper does do some good, maybe one or two people a month. Enough sales to pay for the ad, buy another one for next month and get a little profit.
Can this attitude last? Not by a longshot.
Increasingly, traditional advertising options are being reduced. All newspapers except for one have declining readership. That goes for magazines too. Both of these tradtional media outlets have been slow to adopt online methadology that creates new revenues. All eyes are on the New York Times and their new model of ten free articles and then you pay for the privelage.
Radio is great but few companies do well. I have met more business owners that have bad stories about radio than good ones. Radio is all about the right station, the right time and the right audience, let alone the right deal.
Ok, what's left in a society that revolves around smartphones.
What did you say, smartphones? Yes, I did.
Did you know smartphones account for most of the access on the web. With the average smartphone have at least 100x the computing power of a destop from the 2000, when we really thought computing power was amazing.
All you have to do is pass an AT & T, Sprint, or another cellular provider and see the I-Pad, deals and realize this is the way the population is headed to get their information and yes, you were waiting for it, just waiting for me to accent this sentence with the work, 'advertising'.
Advertising has changed for the web and beside advertising, there is SEO or search engine optimizaiton.
Some folks confuse advertising with SEO. They are in effect kissing cousins but very different personalities.
Where advertising tends to inform in various funny and revolting ways, SEO works to have your company name or website ubiquitous.
Meaning the more places your company name, your name, information about your company, people talking about your company, pictures or video provided by your company and where or how often your company appears in directories, search engines and social sites determine how Google and thousands of other search engines find your company.
So advertising tends to pontificate about your company, talk about it's products, what great guys you are and the quality service.
SEO places your name, your company name, your URL at places on the web that are visible, invisible, in directories, in blogs, in articles, in comments on blogs, associated with videos, photos and social sites entries and comments. Wow, put your head around this. So while advertising places content online, SEO boosts awareness of that content through articles, directories, social sites, blogs, comments, and search engines.
So as kissing cousins, they are a dynamite combination, advertising and SEO.
Why should you know this?
There are two many Yellow Page type books dropped at consumer homes that lack detail. I am amazed these books sometimes do not have entries of businesses that have been around for years. So inaccurracy can be very annoying.
Traditional media outlets are not doing their job.
More smartphones are being sold than desktop or laptop or tablet computers.
Video has become the whirlwind media for the web for product demos, information and public interest.
The demographics are changing in the U.S. How you advertised 10 years ago is not as effective in today's market.
SEO is very much alive, in the front running to bring awareness to business through search engines, blogs and social site reviews.
Now ask yourself, "What have I done for my online business reputation?"
